PHF Announces Pakistan Hockey League Launch Window

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has declared that the inaugural Pakistan Hockey League will commence in the first quarter of 2027, signaling the dawn of a new era for the nation's beloved sport. In a brief statement, the federation expressed its commitment to making the tournament a resounding success for Pakistan hockey.

The PHF, in collaboration with its partners, is diligently working towards ensuring the league's success, spanning various aspects of the sport. These include grassroots development and nurturing young talent, enhancing professional coaching standards, refining organizational structures, and providing international exposure. The federation has been actively working on these initiatives for years, with discussions on a revised model of the Pakistan Hockey League dating back to 2016.

However, the proposal faced numerous obstacles, including permissions, scheduling issues, and financial constraints, which led to its shelving multiple times.

The renewed interest in the league gained traction in 2022 when local media reported that the announcement was anticipated in June of that year, with the tournament slated for September. Reports at the time also mentioned the establishment of a dedicated office in Lahore in early 2022. Additionally, the PHF had engaged the services of Salman Sarwar Butt, a former Pakistan Super League (PSL) project director, as a consultant to guide the league's development.

Despite these efforts, the proposed league did not materialize as initially planned. However, the PHF is now confident that the inaugural Pakistan Hockey League will be launched in the first quarter of 2027. This development is part of the federation's broader strategy to uplift Pakistan hockey through a range of programs, focusing on grassroots initiatives, identifying and cultivating young talent, providing professional coaching, enhancing organizational structures, and fostering greater international exposure.
