Perhilitan captures giant 5.5‑metre crocodile after May attack injured retired policeman in Negeri Sembilan

Seremban, August 21 — The Negeri Sembilan Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) successfully captured a massive 5.5-metre crocodile weighing 500kg in Sungai Tanjung Agas, Sungai Linggi today. The female crocodile, estimated to be 70 years old, was captured in a trap that had been set in the area two days prior, according to Perhilitan Director Wan Mat Wan Harun.

The trap was activated on Wednesday following a report about the crocodile in Tanjung Agas. Upon discovering that the trap door had closed at around 1:30am today, a member of the public notified Perhilitan.

The crocodile was safely relocated to a location run by Perhilitan at Paya Indah Wetlands in Dengkil, Selangor, as reported to Bernama. Wan Harun stated that the capture had brought relief to residents in Tanjung Agas, who had been apprehensive about the crocodile's presence following a May 25 incident where retired police officer Jaafa Hasan, aged 62, was injured by the same reptile.
