Oil output surges as losses via pipelines fall

Nigeria's oil output is on the rise, with pipeline losses decreasing due to enhanced security, reduced theft, and increased stability in the Niger Delta. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission's July report revealed that pipeline losses had plummeted to historical lows. In June, the nation's crude oil and condensate production hit around 1.735 million barrels per day, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase.

This surge was credited to the stability in the Niger Delta and the protective measures taken by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd. For years, Nigeria faced significant losses, estimated in the billions, due to sabotage, community interference, and production shutdowns. These losses had a detrimental impact on national revenue and limited oil production levels.

However, recent developments suggest a turning point, with pipeline losses continuing to decline and oil production reaching new heights. The appointment of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd to safeguard oil assets and foster peace in the Niger Delta region has been instrumental in this progress. President Bola Tinubu's decision to appoint TSSNL, led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, has been pivotal in preserving Nigeria's economic backbone.

In July, Nigeria met its OPEC production quota for the third consecutive month, producing a combined 1.67 million barrels per day of crude oil and condensate. Despite some operational issues at specific fields, Nigeria successfully met the OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day, although overall production dipped by four percent compared to June.

The NUPRC noted that disruptions at the Erha and Akpo fields primarily contributed to the production shortfall.
