The 2026 high school football season commenced in Ohio with Nordonia facing off against St. Vincent-St. Mary on Friday, August 21st for their Week 1 matchup. Nordonia claimed victory in the previous season's Week 1 encounter at Boliantz Stadium, defeating St. Vincent-St. Mary 42-0 and securing an 8-4 record while advancing to the Division II playoffs. Conversely, St. Vincent-St. Mary went 0-9 and missed the playoffs altogether.

For the 2026 season, first-year head coach Scott Barwidi will helm Nordonia. Barwidi, a first-year head coach, was an assistant for Nordonia for the past 18 years before taking over the position. Jeff Fox, who coached the Knights for 14 seasons, resigned in April after announcing his resignation. Before joining Nordonia, Fox became the athletic director at Willoughby South High School, where he led the team to 11 OHSAA playoff appearances and a Division II state runner-up finish in 2014.

Barwidi has been a part of Nordonia's football coaching staff for 18 years, having served as strength and conditioning coach, defensive backs coach, quarterbacks coach, special teams coordinator, and assistant head coach. He also coached middle school football and freshmen teams at Nordonia. Barwidi was also the head coach for Nordonia's girls and boys track and field teams from 2009-2021, leading the teams to 13 league championships, four district titles, and one regional crown.

Marcus Wattley returns to St. Vincent-St. Mary for the 2026 football season, marking his second stint with the team. Wattley boasts a 31-15 overall record (17-9 in two seasons at St. Vincent-St. Mary, 14-6 in two seasons at Canton McKinley). The defensive ends coach and academic liaison at the University of Akron under Terry Bowden's staff in 2018, Wattley also served as Canton McKinley's head coach in 2019 and 2020 before leaving due to a controversial incident during a gym workout.

Wattley was the defensive coordinator at Archbishop Hoban in 2025, leading the team to a 10-2 record and a Division II, Region 5 finalist finish. He compiled a 17-9 record in two seasons as St. Vincent-St. Mary's head coach, capturing two playoff appearances and a Division III state semifinal appearance in 2017. Wattley, a Copley High School graduate (2000), holds a bachelor's degree and two associate degrees from the University of Akron (2003, 2006, 2010), and played football at Copley and Akron.
