NSMQ 2026: Tamale SHS sweep aside Kalpohin, Wenchi Methodist to reach one-eighth stage

The Lions of Tamale secured their place in the One-Eighth stage of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) by dominating the Preliminary round against sister schools Kalpohin SHS and Wenchi Methodist SHS. Tamale SHS started the competition narrowly ahead, leading 19-17 against Kalpohin SHS and trailing Wenchi Methodist by just two points at 11-9.

The Lions' performance surged in Round Two, adding 18 points to lead 37-11 against Kalpohin and 46-24 against Wenchi Methodist. Round Three saw Tamale extend their lead further, with 46 points versus Kalpohin's 28 and Wenchi Methodist's 17. Their most impressive run came in Round Four, where they added 16 points to reach 62 points while Kalpohin lagged on 28 points and Wenchi Methodist on 24 points.

Tamale's consistency was highlighted in the True or False segment, where they correctly answered all eight questions, earning the Jupay Clean Sheet Prize. The final round solidified their lead, with Tamale finishing with 68 points, while Kalpohin ended at 41 points and Wenchi Methodist at 30 points. Although the 2026 NSMQ promises more challenges, the Tamale team celebrated a significant victory, moving on to face tougher competitors in the One-Eighth stage.
