Northern senators renew call for state police

Northern Senators have reiterating their demand for prompt action from the Federal Government and state governors on the proposed State Police Bill. This comes in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Sokoto states, which resulted in over 36 casualties, including security personnel and worshippers. The Northern Senators Forum made this appeal in a statement by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, who urged the relevant authorities to expedite ratification of the bill currently pending.

The forum highlighted the need for decentralised policing to enhance response time and intelligence gathering at the grassroots level. They also condemned the recent attacks in Gaya community, Adamawa State, and Ungushi village, Sokoto State, where insurgents killed eight and 30 people respectively. The senators emphasized the importance of investing in community vigilante groups to serve as intelligence partners to the Police and Military.

They expressed condolences to the victims' families and to the governments and people of Adamawa and Sokoto states.
