Mathrubhumi launches Onam campaign highlighting Keralam's enduring values

In the 1930s, questions were raised in the Travancore Sri Mulam Assembly regarding extending the length of Onam public holidays from the already existing Christmas-New Year break of 9 to 11 days. The Chief Secretary to the government, Dr. N. Kunjan Pillai, defended the government's stance that there were already a "sufficiently large number of holidays in the year" and therefore did not think it necessary to increase them further.
