Perdana Menteri Anwar Ibrahim announced the government's intention to investigate Felda issues following the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji. Analyst Tawfik Yaakub of the University of Malaya argued that exposing wrongdoing within Felda is a more strategic approach to gaining support from Malay voters compared to merely investigating corruption in the agency.

RCI's findings on Tabung Haji were published on July 29, a day before the National Election in Negeri Sembilan. However, this move failed to help Pakatan Harapan (PH), which lost control of the state government to the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN). Tawfik suggested that a similar approach could be applied to the Felda issue, as political trust could be built if the government implemented reforms that increase Felda's revenue and manage its affairs effectively.

This would not only provide additional economic opportunities for generations two and three, but also ensure a better future for Felda's community. Tawfik pointed out that the reforms should also demonstrate that PH's agenda is not only about catering to the desires of upscale urban elites, but also addresses important issues within the government institution that matter to rural Malay society.

On the PKR National Congress on Saturday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the government's intention to investigate the Felda issue, which came shortly after the RCI report on Tabung Haji was published.
