Aerospace wind turbine manufacturer Aeris filed a protective injunction seeking relief against its creditors, as it simultaneously entered negotiations to restructure its debt. The company, controlled by the Negrão family, which owns Laboratory Medley, had a debt of R$ 1.95 billion at the end of the second quarter, most of which was tied up in debentures.
Aeris did not disclose the reasons for its latest restructuring attempt. The injunction, requesting a 60-day protection period, is being processed quietly at the Justice Department. The crisis is not new; the company raised R$ 400 million in a follow-on offering in 2023 to amortize debts and negotiated term extensions with holders of debentures and bank debt in mid-2025.
The wind industry is facing an unprecedented (and long) crisis, amid an excess of renewable generation that has led to forced cuts in plant production, affecting revenue and leading companies to suspend new projects and dry up equipment orders. Last year, GE Vernova closed a wind turbine factory in Pernambuco. Previously, Siemens Gamesa and GE had already ceased wind turbine production in the country.
WEG has been without any orders for its wind turbine unit for several quarters. In the second quarter, Aeris reported revenue of R$ 129 million, 47% below the same period in 2025. The final balance sheet showed a loss of R$ 152 million. Aeris has been operating with only two active lines in its factory in Pecém, Ceará, producing 78 MW equivalent wind blades in the second quarter, less than half the volume compared to the same period in 2025 when it had four lines operating.
To give an idea of the level of paralysis in the local wind energy market, Aeris produced practically nothing for domestic delivery over the last three quarters (only 1 MW), with sales to overseas markets accounting for the remainder of its manufacturing. The company, however, claims it has 2 GW of pipeline for 2026 and 2027, highlighting the strength of the American market, with a forecast to reactivate lines in the coming quarters.
Aeris stated it seeks a "consensual solution for the restructuring of the current financial debt" and that the measures adopted would not impact its clients. Aeris holds a debt of R$ 1.51 billion on two debenture issuances that have been non-paying since July 2024, according to data from private credit platform Vitrify. Creditors' assemblies in 2025 postponed the maturity of these two issuances to 2030 and the payment of interest to 2027.
The company also refinanced debts with Banco do Brasil, Banco Votorantim, and Banco Santander in the previous year. Aeris is worth R$ 138 million on the B3. The company's shares have fallen more than 30% this year.
