Live: Lions seeking big win over Pies in battle for third spot
With the battle for third spot coming down to percentage, Brisbane Lions will have to put their foot down against Collingwood to get a big break over rivals Hawthorn. Follow live.
The Brisbane Lions secured a dominant 63-point victory over the Collingwood Magpies at the MCG, solidifying their position in third place. The win gave the Lions a 4.4 per cent lead over the Hawks, who are playing West Coast in Perth on Sunday. Logan Morris kicked eight goals for the Lions, while Irishman Conor McKenna added four, including some spectacular goals.
Both players showcased remarkable skill and firepower for their team. However, the lack of defensive pressure from Collingwood was a significant concern for coach Craig McRae, who described the game as a hard watch due to the absence of defensive intensity. Despite the challenges, McRae acknowledged that the Lions played the best team in the competition, highlighting their ability to quickly dominate games.
The result guarantees Brisbane a top-four berth, but they will face Hawthorn in the wildcard round, with Melbourne currently in second place and needing a significant margin to overtake the Lions.
