Health Minister reports a 56.2% rise in dengue fever cases nationwide to 58,079 cases by the 32nd Epidemiology Week of August 15th, with 55 deaths recorded due to complications from the disease. The rise in cases is primarily concentrated in the Klang Valley, particularly Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. Out of the total cases, 25,090 were reported in Selangor, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (10,316 cases), Johor (8,639), Sabah (3,753), Negeri Sembilan (3,619), Perak (1,793), Kelantan (1,180), Penang (916), Pahang (690), Sarawak (629), Kedah (599), Melaka (477), Terengganu (196), Perlis (169) and Labuan (13).

While a positive trend is seen in affected areas following improved prevention and control measures, the overall national situation remains concerning due to the increasing number of cases in several states. The rise in cases is also influenced by unpredictable weather conditions, with rain interspersed with warm temperatures creating a conducive environment for Aedes mosquito breeding.

Additionally, the presence of uncollected water containers in residential areas and surroundings contribute to the increase in Aedes mosquito breeding and the spread of dengue fever.

The Health Ministry emphasizes the need for a community-wide approach in prevention and control efforts, as more than 70% of Aedes mosquito breeding sites are still found in residential areas. They urge the public to dedicate at least 10 minutes each week to inspect and eliminate Aedes breeding sites around their homes and surroundings. Furthermore, individuals are advised to take preventive measures against mosquito bites and seek immediate medical attention if they experience fever or symptoms of severe dengue fever.
