Applications are now being accepted for the Nairobi edition of Swift Academy, a talent development platform created by Martell and curated by Africa House. The program aims to support emerging music creatives and professionals through mentorship, practical development, industry access and collaboration. A diverse network of mentors from various sectors of the music and creative industries will guide participants, offering insights on songwriting, artist development, visual storytelling, communications, and music journalism.
Bensoul, a Kenyan singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, is one of the mentors. He brings years of experience in songwriting, performance, collaboration, and independent artist development. Bensoul believes that while raw talent is abundant, having access to guidance, structure, and industry knowledge can significantly impact a young creative's career.
Monica Kemoli, a music and culture executive with experience across artist development, music strategy, and creative partnerships, will also mentor participants. Kemoli has worked with artists, managers, and labels at Spotify and Platoon, providing practical insight into artist development, release strategy, music marketing, and building sustainable careers in music.
Anyiko Owoko, a communications strategist, publicist, and music industry tastemaker, will share her expertise in helping emerging creatives build their profiles, communicate their work, and navigate the competitive music industry. Njerae, a Kenyan Afro-Indie artist, will offer a contemporary artist's perspective on creative development, audience connection, and the journey from emerging talent to a global career.
Joey Akan, a music journalist, cultural commentator, and creator of Afrobeats Intelligence, will provide insights into storytelling, cultural positioning, and the broader forces shaping how African music is documented, understood, and experienced.
Twenty-five participants will be selected for the Nairobi edition, which includes practical learning, mentorship, industry access, collaboration, and professional tools tailored to individual development needs. Participants will also receive access to a wider network of peers and collaborators and a grant. Following the Academy experience, participants will have three additional weeks in a creative hub to further develop their work.
The program will conclude with a showcase celebrating their progress. Applications for the Nairobi edition of Swift Academy close on 28 August 2026.
