Israel will investigate Hind Rajab’s death. Her mother wants more

Wesam Hamada, the mother of Hind Rajab, is demanding an independent inquiry into her daughter's death, according to a report by The Associated Press. Hind, a 5-year-old Palestinian girl, was found dead days after Israeli forces fired on her family's car in Gaza City in January 2024. Wesam claims that an Israeli military investigation announced this week is not enough, expressing her distress over the girl's final pleas for help.

"All I remember is her voice pleading, 'Mama, I'm scared. Mama, I'm hungry. Mama, I'm hurt,'" she recounted. The recording of Hind's phone call with her mother and emergency dispatchers made her a prominent casualty in the Israel-Hamas war. Israel's military acknowledged firing at the family's car as it fled an Israeli invasion and also at an ambulance dispatched to help them.

Six people, including Hind and two paramedics, were killed. However, both Rajab's family and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society doubt the Israeli investigation's ability to provide justice, questioning why the acknowledgment of the shooting only came after over two years.
