Iran says Tehran must overcome 'unjust sanctions' as US ramps up economic pressure

DUBAI — Iranian parliament speaker Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf stated on Friday that Iran must develop strategies to cope with unjust sanctions, following the announcement of what he called the most stringent sanctions ever imposed on Iran by the U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Bessent indicated that these measures would be outlined on Monday, implying they might reduce the necessity for additional significant military actions.

Qalibaf, a prominent Iranian politician and Tehran's primary point of contact in negotiations with the United States, emphasized the interconnection between economic growth and security. He blamed the U.S. and Israel for engaging in economic and psychological warfare, arguing that their inability to achieve victory through direct military action against Iran and Iraq has driven them to target their economic resources.

During a meeting with Iranian and Iraqi business leaders in Baghdad, Qalibaf highlighted the abundance of resources and raw materials within Muslim nations, stating that adversaries seek to exploit them. Consequently, he urged the need for robust plans to address these unjust sanctions, ensuring Iran's ability to overcome them.
