Indore's Sayaji Hotel’s Food Licence Suspended, Kitchen Sealed After Inspection

Indore's Sayaji Hotel faced a suspension of its food license and a sealed kitchen following a surprise inspection on Thursday. The district administration discovered serious irregularities that spanned multiple areas including food storage, temperature control, labeling, pest control, cleanliness, infrastructure, and licensing. Senior food officer Manish Swami reported that the Food and Drug Administration team, along with administrative officials, also inspected Signature Boutique Hotel and The Bhavans Prominent International School.

At Signature Boutique Hotel, several hygiene-related issues were found, with the kitchen floor damaged, improper food storage arrangements, missing manufacturing and expiry dates on some food items, and workers not wearing necessary protective gear. Medical fitness certificates for food handlers were also absent, and pest control certification was lacking.

Three samples from the hotel were collected for further analysis. At The Bhavans Prominent International School, five samples of tomato ketchup, vinegar, red chilli sauce, pav, and bhaji were taken. Damaged utensils, a lack of water testing report, and rusted utensils were among the issues found. All samples are now being sent to the food testing laboratory, with further actions to be taken based on the inspection findings and laboratory reports under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
