Indonesia Embassy marks 81st Independence Day in Bangkok

Indonesia's Embassy in Thailand celebrated the 81st Independence Day on August 20th, hosting a reception in Bangkok attended by diplomats, politicians, media representatives, and guests from various sectors. The event took place in the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, where Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand, Hari Prabowo, emphasized the strong historical connections between the two nations and Thailand's significant role in Indonesia's path to independence.

Prabowo stated, "Thailand holds a special place in Indonesia's journey to independence," noting that Bangkok was the location of Indonesia's first diplomatic mission overseas in 1947. The Indonesia Office, or INDOFF, initially established to garner international support for Indonesia's newfound independence, later transformed into the current Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bangkok.

Expressing deep appreciation, Prabowo thanked the Royal Thai Government and the Thai people for their steadfast support since Indonesia's independence. He further highlighted the strengthening of bilateral relations, including the launch of the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership in 2025 and the roadmap's announcement in Jakarta on August 3rd, 2026, during Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's visit.

Describing the strategic partnership as forward-thinking and people-focused, Prabowo aimed to generate tangible benefits for the populations of both countries, including future generations. He also stressed the importance of cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand for a peaceful and stable ASEAN. Prabowo concluded by stating that Indonesia's independence was built upon the belief that freedom is a right for all peoples, and that it should be utilized to foster a just society that safeguards human rights and dignity, fosters prosperity, and ensures sustainability.
