Heavy rain and winds to hit Hawaii less than a week after damage from Hurricane Lala

Hawaii braces for another round of heavy rain and wind as Tropical Storm Moke forms in the Pacific Ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is on track to impact the Big Island, where Hurricane Lala recently left devastation, downing trees and leaving roads submerged in mud and rocks. Moke is currently located about 595 miles southeast of Hilo and moving west-northwest at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds around 45 mph.

Rainfall predictions for the Big Island range from 5 to 10 inches of rain, with isolated amounts up to 15 inches, while parts of east Maui could see up to 4 inches. The storm is expected to move west across the islands through early Tuesday, with the northeast coast of the Big Island likely to experience the heaviest impacts. Authorities urge residents to closely monitor the storm's progress and prepare for potential dangerous conditions, including rip currents, life-threatening flooding, and mudslides.
