Hadi quizzed by police over column, says aide

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has agreed to face trial if police have grounds and charges against him, according to his political secretary. An aide to Hadi, Syahir Sulaiman, revealed that police recorded statements from the PAS leader over one of his "Minda Presiden PAS" columns. Syahir stated that Hadi is always ready to cooperate with authorities, even if Malay DAP leaders claim his speeches and writings could incite public disorder.

The specific column has not been identified. FMT could not verify Syahir's claim with Bukit Aman. Hadi has previously stated that secularism is a deviant teaching from Western colonizers and accused DAP of questioning the Federal Constitution's secular nature. This controversy arose when DAP leaders questioned why PAS continued to work with DAP in Pakatan Rakyat from 2008 to 2015.

Hadi defended his statement against DAP's desire to steer the constitution towards secular rule, asserting that it was based on Islamic scripture, the Federal Constitution, and past DAP statements. Hadi emphasized that the PAS-Pakatan Rakyat alliance was based on common ground, provided the partners did not oppose PAS's policies.

The Pakatan Rakyat coalition ended after DAP opposed the PAS-led Kelantan government's actions to ban alcohol consumption and implement a shariah criminal enactment.
