Gombe girl wins Qur’anic competition in Saudi Arabia

Maryam Ibrahim Dan'azumi, a student from Gombe State, has clinched the top spot in the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur'anic Competition held in Saudi Arabia. Representing Nigeria, Maryam competed in the category for memorizing the entire Holy Qur'an, recitation, Tajweed and interpretation (60 Hizb with Tafsir). Her outstanding performance secured her the first overall position, marking a historic achievement as women had never participated in the competition's 46-year history.

Prior to this, Maryam had emerged victorious at the local government, state, and national levels. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed immense pride and excitement over Maryam's international success. He lauded her, her family, teachers, and the entire Gombe Muslim community, emphasizing that her victory highlighted the importance of discipline and commitment to learning, and reflected the quality of talent and potential among young people in Gombe State.

Governor Yahaya stated that this achievement would inspire numerous young people, especially girls, to pursue excellence. He affirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the educational development of young people, particularly Qur'anic and religious studies, which he considered crucial in fostering discipline, character, and responsible citizenship.

The governor anticipated personally honoring Maryam upon her return to Nigeria, aiming to encourage her to maintain her pursuit of excellence and inspire other young people to aspire to similar heights. He called for continued nurturing of young talents by parents, teachers, religious institutions, and other stakeholders, acknowledging the significant role of Abubakar Siddiq Community Islamic School for Qur'anic Memorisation in the young achiever's development.
