Fazl, other opposition leaders agree to form ‘united opposition’

ISLAMABAD - Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), announced on Thursday that a united opposition would be formed to challenge the government after meetings with opposition leaders. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and opposition parties agreed to cooperate on legislative matters the previous day.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the development marked the first interaction among opposition parties, with further consultations planned. He confirmed that all opposition parties would unite, strengthen their contacts, and finalize a joint strategy. At a subsequent meeting, participants expressed concern over the government's treatment of opposition members in the National Assembly and Senate.

They condemned the suppression of the opposition's voice in a democratic setting. The leaders discussed the government's policies, the opposition's role in Parliament, and future strategies to protect the Constitution and democracy. Fazlur Rehman and PPP leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai exchanged views on enhancing contacts among opposition parties and adopting a unified strategy at the parliamentary level. They agreed to continue consultations and finalize a joint course of action.
