Families of Hamilton teens speak out following tragic double murder

The families of Afef Benefif and AbdulMalik Shibli continue to struggle with the loss of their teenage sons who were fatally shot in a Stoney Creek neighborhood in July. Despite a 15-year-old being charged with the murders, the families remain uncertain about the investigation. Wael Shibli, AbdulMalik's father, expressed his frustration, saying, "A lot of questions, a lot of questions."

He lamented that there is no information about the ongoing investigation. Prior to the shooting, there was a home invasion at Afef's house, reportedly involving bear spray and an assault on his parents. The family's neighbor, Ashley, stated that she helped the family after the incident by bringing them into her home and urged Afef to cooperate with the police.

Hamilton police are investigating a possible connection between the home invasion and the fatal shooting. The 15-year-old suspect faces two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder with a firearm. AbdulMalik's father, Wael, called for changes to the criminal justice system to ensure young offenders are held accountable for their actions, rather than their age.

The suspect's mother, a 34-year-old woman, has also been charged with being an accessory after the fact.
