Ex-Pakistan PM Khan returned to jail after hospital checks

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, 73, was returned to jail after a medical examination at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, a senior official said on Friday. The checkup occurred following court orders, with Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirming the move. Khan, who founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was placed under appropriate security during his transfer from Adiala Jail to PIMS on the night of August 20-21.

A medical team, comprising specialists in ophthalmology, cardiology, and general medicine, completed the examination and declared Khan medically fit. His sister, Uzma Khan, was present throughout the process. The Supreme Court had ordered Khan to be transferred to Shifa International Hospital, but security concerns prompted his examination at PIMS instead.

The court has allowed Khan to remain in the hospital until a hearing on September 16, despite his conviction in several cases he and PTI party members have labeled as politically motivated.
