Don’t make govt action on TH a racial, religious issue, says Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that the government's actions to tackle mismanagement and wrongdoing at Tabung Haji should not be viewed as a racial or religious matter. KAJANG: The Malaysian leader stated that the government is taking steps to address the identified issues at Tabung Haji, and not solely because of the Islamic association of the institution.

Anwar clarified that similar measures are being implemented in other institutions like Felda, and such actions should not be interpreted from a racial or religious standpoint. During a program with Felda's top management, Anwar warned against painting the government's intervention as a racial issue, cautioning against inflating the significance of the matter.

Despite not naming any specific individuals, his comments come in response to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's assertion that the TH issue was being exaggerated to tarnish the image of Malay-Muslims. Hadi argued that while there may have been mismanagement at TH, other institutions were not receiving equal scrutiny. However, Anwar defended the government's efforts to address Felda's issues by citing the tabling of a white paper and the formation of a special task force to prevent the recurrence of past problems.
