Diu Marks 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour

On August 15, 2023, the 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervor in Diu, a Union Territory of India. Administrator Praful Patel unfurled the national flag at Ghoghla Jetty, greeting the people and honoring those who fought for India's freedom. He praised the nation's progress towards becoming a developed and self-reliant country and encouraged citizens to contribute to its growth.

In Diu, notable developments included enhancements in transport systems, airport infrastructure, sanitation, healthcare, and education. The Administrator announced plans for the expansion of Diu Airport to accommodate larger aircraft and the construction of a new Jethibhai Bus Stand to improve public transportation. Education in Diu has also seen significant improvements, with rising enrollment rates, decreased dropout rates, and modern learning facilities.

The territory boasts higher education institutions such as medical, engineering, and nursing colleges, offering students ample opportunities.

Healthcare in Diu is advancing, with plans to introduce CT scan and diagnostic services at the government hospital, along with mammography for women. Infrastructure improvements, such as sewerage connectivity for 8,045 households and better solid waste management, have been implemented. Diu's cleanliness and growing tourism sector have further bolstered its reputation, and the successful hosting of national-level beach sports events has added to its appeal.

The Administrator urged young people to steer clear of addiction and focus on positive pursuits, emphasizing the importance of social harmony, national unity, and brotherhood. He called on citizens to actively contribute to the nation's development. The celebrations concluded with a spirited performance of 'Vande Mataram' and other patriotic cultural shows, as well as awards for excellence in cleanliness and the upkeep of public spaces, panchayats, and municipal wards.
