Chow says Penang awaits DAP leadership call before equal constituency law move

Batu Kawan, Aug 21 — Penang's Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has stated that the state will await a decision from DAP’s national leadership before contemplating any move to implement an Equal Constituency Development Enactment. DAP national chairman Gobind Singh Deo had reached out to Chow regarding the matter, emphasizing that any decision should be coordinated at the national level.

Following a meeting at McDonald’s Batu Kawan Drive-Thru, Chow addressed inquiries about calls from Projek Stability and Accountability for Malaysia (Projek SAMA) urging Penang and Selangor to introduce equitable Constituency Development Fund (CDF) laws. These laws would ensure equal allocations for elected representatives and minimize executive discretion over the funds.

Chow mentioned that opposition assemblymen in Penang have been receiving state-funded allocations for years, with current allocations set at RM60,000.
