Chinese national in police custody over ‘assault’ on employee

A Chinese national, Bai Quang, has been arrested in Lagos on charges of sexually assaulting and persistently harassing his employee, Charles Nwafor, a Nigerian man. According to police sources, Quang allegedly subjected Nwafor to unwanted physical contact, including pulling down his trousers and touching his private parts, despite Nwafor's clear denials.

The suspect allegedly arranged for Nwafor to meet him at a hotel, claiming it was for business purposes, but Nwafor refused to comply with further advances. Nwafor subsequently reported the incident to the police, leading to an investigation. Quang was subsequently transferred from the Ilemba Hausa Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further examination.

The suspect was also accused of retaliating against Nwafor by terminating his employment after the latter refused to submit to his demands. The case is being handled by the Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Section of the SCID, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Dayo Akinbisehin. The Chinese Embassy has been informed of the arrest, in accordance with diplomatic protocols for foreign nationals.

Authorities are currently working to ascertain the full circumstances of the allegations and the appropriate course of legal action.
