Chile unveils online work permit verification for foreign workers

Chile’s National Immigration Service has introduced a free digital Work Authorisation Certificate to assist foreign nationals and employers in verifying an individual's authorization to work in the country. The Habilitación Laboral Certificate is accessible through SERMIG’s online immigration platform and includes a QR code for digital verification.

Employers can utilize this tool to expedite work authorisation checks and minimize administrative paperwork for foreign workers and employers. However, SERMIG emphasizes that the certificate does not substitute a thorough assessment of a foreign worker's immigration and work status. Employers must still evaluate the relevant immigration documentation and confirm the worker's compliance with all applicable requirements.

The digital certificate serves as an additional verification tool, offering employers a rapid means to verify work authorisation and providing foreign workers with a convenient digital record of their status.
