Bersatu must mend ties with PN components, says Perlis chief

Perlis Bersatu chief Abu Bakar Hamzah has called for his party to mend ties with other Perikatan Nasional (PN) components. Hamzah, who recently stepped down as a Bersatu Supreme Council member, emphasized that his party must accept the reality of staying within a coalition like PN to remain relevant. He urged the party's top leadership to review several actions taken, including the expulsion of members, and improve their relationship with PN components.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Hamzah, who is the Perlis menteri besar, aligns himself with former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, whose new party Wawasan joined PN last month. Bersatu parted ways with PAS due to the latter's decision to end their political cooperation in June. The party's decision to contest alone in 24 seats led to heavy defeats, with all candidates except one losing their election deposits.

Muhyiddin Yassin, the former Bersatu president, had previously criticized PAS for turning PN into a toxic coalition, stating that Bersatu would form a new political alliance following the Negeri Sembilan polls.
