Anwar lands in Brunei for 27th Annual Leaders’ Consultation, to meet Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim touched down in Brunei today for a two-day meeting, the 27th Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC-27), with Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The special aircraft carrying Anwar and his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, touched down at Brunei International Airport at 6:10pm and was greeted by Brunei's Foreign Affairs Minister, Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah.

Other attendees included Brunei's Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, the Ministry's Secretary-General Tan Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, and Malaysia's High Commissioner to Brunei, Datuk Mohd Aini Atan. On the second day, Anwar will meet Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and engage in a high-level dialogue at the Nurul Iman Palace. The two leaders are also anticipated to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning disaster management collaboration.

This is the 27th iteration of the ALC, serving as the top-level bilateral platform for Malaysia and Brunei to discuss bilateral cooperation and exchange perspectives on regional and global matters of mutual concern. In 2025, the combined trade between Malaysia and Brunei amounted to RM5.86 billion (US$1.37 billion), with exports worth RM4.20 billion (US$0.98 billion) and imports at RM1.66 billion (US$0.39 billion). For the period from January to June 2026, the total trade reached RM2.38 billion (US$600 million).
