Alleged rapist arrested after returning to Brisbane crime scene that night, police say

In Brisbane's west, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 32-year-old man as she walked through Brookfield, according to police. The victim, separated from a family member, crossed a creek and bushland before reaching the Brookfield Showgrounds Oval and contacting authorities. Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham alleged the man approached the woman from behind, dragged her into nearby bushes, and raped her for some time before leaving the scene.

The accused allegedly drove past the crime scene after work, where he was identified and arrested. The man faces six counts of rape, as well as charges of stalking, assault with intent to commit rape, assault occasioning bodily harm, and deprivation of liberty. Police are not seeking additional suspects in connection with the incident and will maintain an increased police presence in the area.

The woman has received medical and psychological care, and her family is being provided support. Local witnesses expressed shock and concern over the incident, which occurred in an area known for morning walks.
