8 Injured As Crane Falls On Houses During Eviction Operation In Mumbai
Eight people injured after crane topples during eviction operation in Mumbai
Mumbai's Kurla witnessed a crane accident that resulted in at least ten injuries, including a newborn baby, early Friday morning. The incident occurred around 2:40 am at Building No. 1 of Bhandari Metallurgy in Qureshi Nagar, where the crane was being positioned for demolition work. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) reported that the crane tilted while being moved and fell towards an adjoining structure. Soft ground at the location seemed to have contributed to the crane's instability.
Central Railway confirmed that part of the crane fell onto the high-tension overhead wires on the Kurla-Trombay single-line section. The incident did not impact passenger train services, as the section is mainly used for goods traffic. Central Railway stated that the responsibility for the accident rests with MMRDA.
The injured were taken to Sion Hospital and Kurla Bhabha Hospital. Jagrulla Nabi Mohammed Khan, 63, sustained head and leg injuries and remains admitted in Sion Hospital in stable condition. The other injured individuals include Ahmed Niyaz Ahmed, three months old; Atikur Reman, 60; Hakum Sheikh, 36; Numan Khan, 21; Rehman Khan, 19; Suraj Gaur, 10; and Akbar, 40. Raju Gaud, 35, and Aarti Gaud, 30, were also injured but have been discharged from the hospital.
