In Vasai-Virar, a social activist named Vivek Tiwari has embarked on an indefinite hunger strike, calling for the resignation of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) City Engineer, Pradeep Pachange. The protest stems from the escalating pothole problem and perceived negligence in road maintenance. Potholes have become more prevalent in recent days, prompting various political parties to organize protests and marches, aiming to draw public attention to accidents caused by these hazards.

Tiwari's hunger strike, which began on August 15, coincides with Independence Day, and has entered its fifth day. He accuses Pachange of failing to fulfill his duties and argue that public funds are being squandered while contractors continue to profit. Political groups, including the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Congress, have shown their support for Tiwari's cause, and independent organizations have also lent their solidarity.

Despite Tiwari's deteriorating health, he remains committed to the hunger strike, prompting allegations from protesters that the municipal administration has not adequately addressed his condition. Speaking at the protest, Tiwari expressed his dissatisfaction with Pachange's performance, stating that the officer is responsible for ensuring contractors complete their work properly and cancel contracts when they fail to do so.

He further accused Pachange of being involved in corruption and neglecting taxpayers' money. Tiwari vowed to continue the hunger strike until Pachange submits his resignation.
