US threatens to expand economic pressure on Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has declared a "crushing economic operation" against Iran, describing it as the most consequential action ever taken against a nation. The objective is to disrupt Iran's financial support and weaken its economy. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, the president threatened "tremendous economic consequences" for any country aiding Iran.

He called for allies to join the initiative, labeling Iran's leaders as "maniacs" and claiming they are "on the ropes." Trump also announced that there are no current or planned negotiations with Iran, emphasizing his lack of urgency to reach a deal. The U.S. continues to enforce a blockade on Iranian ports, claiming it is causing significant economic damage.

However, Iran has not shown any inclination to negotiate, and it remains unclear how effective the new measures will be in weakening Iran's resolve. The announcement came a day after the United Arab Emirates suspended trade and financial dealings with Iran following a missile attack blamed on Tehran. Iran denies responsibility for the attack.
