UBA appoints Ibrahim Puri as Non-Executive Director

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has appointed Ibrahim Ajimasu Puri as a Non-Executive Director of the bank, according to a regulatory filing with the Nigerian Exchange Limited. The appointment requires approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria. UBA's Board expressed confidence that Puri's extensive experience would strengthen the bank's leadership.

UBA Group Chairman Tony O. Elumelu congratulated Puri, stating his expertise would contribute to the bank's growth. Puri, a financial services executive with over 35 years of experience in banking, fintech, telecommunications, and fast-moving consumer goods, has also participated in executive programs at prestigious universities and holds a Master's degree in Banking and Finance.

His appointment follows Tony Elumelu's retirement from UBA's Board, marking a period of significant expansion for the bank, which now operates across 20 African countries and financial centers on four continents. Despite a decline in profit before tax in the first quarter of 2026, UBA's gross earnings increased by 4.86% year-on-year. The bank currently employs about 30,000 people and serves more than 50 million customers globally.
