‘The Odyssey’ Passes ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ for All-Time R-Rated Box Office Record

Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has surpassed the 2024 Marvel film "Deadpool & Wolverine" to become the highest grossing R-rated movie in box office history, before accounting for inflation. The record was celebrated by Ryan Reynolds, star of "Deadpool," who congratulated the "Odyssey" cast and crew via social media with a video splice of Odysseus and his men walking through a forest with footage of Deadpool and Wolverine fighting inside a car.

As of now, "The Odyssey" has amassed $1.35 billion worldwide and is projected to reach over $1.6 billion. If it climbs to $1.67 billion, it will break Universal's previous record of "Jurassic World" in unadjusted global totals. The film is notable as just one of three R-rated movies to gross more than $1 billion worldwide, joining "Joker" from 2019.

"The Odyssey" also marks Nolan as one of the most globally popular directors today, with millions of viewers viewing his films as major cinematic events. Shot entirely with Imax film cameras, the film has already become the highest grossing Imax film to date.
