Tension mounting as Springboks, All Blacks ready for opening test of tour series

Johannesburg, Aug 20 - Marketed as Rugby's Greatest Rivalry, the four-match series between South Africa and New Zealand has seen spiky exchanges over contrasting playing styles, raising tensions ahead of Saturday's first test in Johannesburg. This incident-filled rivalry extends back over a century, with the first tour series in 30 years generating a combative edge.

New Zealand's high-tempo running game, which has delighted purists, stands in stark contrast to South Africa's emphasis on forward power, set pieces, and tactical kicking. However, South Africa's coach Rassie Erasmus has dismissed suggestions that they will try to disrupt New Zealand's rhythm by slowing the game through frequent stoppages.
