A lithium-ion battery used to charge a phone next to a bed caught fire while a person was sleeping, causing a house fire. On the 11th, the Fire Department reported that a fire broke out at a home in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, at around 1:40 a.m. on the 10th, killing three people and injuring two others. The fire started in the bedroom of the two-story detached house and spread to the entire building. The victims were a couple in their 50s and their 20-something son. The two injured people were the couple's daughter and son-in-law. The family of four and one other person had been sleeping when the fire broke out. An investigation by the fire department found that the fire started near a lithium-ion battery on a bedside table. The battery was being used to charge a mobile phone. The fire department determined that the fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit in the battery. The police and fire department are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
