Defence Minister An Gyubak firmly denied allegations of military desertion during his short stint as a conscientious objector, stating "If I had deserted, there wouldn't be such a concern as a single point." During a session of the National Assembly's Defence Committee, An Gyubak called for the release of a detailed military record that includes his service details, disciplinary history and any misconduct allegations.

The Minister referred to this as a "necessary step" for him to take after stepping down from his position. When asked about the possibility of military desertion, An Gyubak remarked, "If there were such incidents, I would be the one holding the hand of my National Assembly colleague An Hyo-joon." The Minister further said, "Once I retire from my post, I intend to complete the necessary legal and administrative procedures to close this matter."

When challenged about a 30-day imprisonment period in the military record, An Gyubak explained that it was due to administrative errors. He further mentioned that his civilian son had provided free meals to his fellow conscript for a few weeks during his service, leading to a 3-day investigation which was not included in his total service time.

The Minister said he would address the matter personally once he had left office. Despite repeated questions from hundreds of MPs, An Gyubak insisted on not releasing the military record.
