Shettima, Fubara unveil 33.5km Rivers road

Vice President Kashim Shettima and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have officially opened a 33.5-kilometre dual carriageway road between Elele, Egbeda and Omoku. Shettima arrived in Rivers to represent President Bola Tinubu at the event, which was also attended by state and federal officials. The road traverses Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.

Shettima emphasized the importance of infrastructure development for economic growth and improved quality of life, describing roads as the "most democratic instruments of development." The new road replaces a route plagued by poor conditions, including deep gullies, a deteriorated carriageway and security concerns. Shettima highlighted how the new dual carriageway will facilitate farmers' access to markets, increase trade opportunities for traders and reduce logistics costs for businesses.

Fubara described the project as a demonstration of his administration's commitment to the communities along the road, noting that it had previously been a corridor for kidnapping and bunkering. He expressed confidence that the new road would improve security along the route through better lighting and more effective operations by security agencies.
