SEBI Allows IFSCA-Regulated Entities To Access KYC Records Through Registered KRAs

New Delhi, August 20, 2026 - India's securities regulator Sebi has granted permission to entities under its IFSCA regulation to access the databases of registered KYC agencies. This move aims to improve interoperability and streamline the sharing of client information between Sebi-registered KYC entities and IFSCA-regulated businesses.

IFSCA-regulated firms can now access KYC Registration Agency (KRA) records to conduct KYC for their clients engaging in financial services. A KYC Registration Agency is responsible for maintaining KYC records of investors. KYC verifies the identity and other crucial details of a client.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has incorporated IFSCA-regulated entities under Regulation 16A(1) of the KYC Registration Agency Regulations, 2011. This allows these entities to access the KRA system to perform KYC.

Applicable KYC and data regulations apply to all entities accessing the KRA system. They must adhere to the KRA Regulations and Sebi's master circular on KYC norms for the securities market, which may be amended as necessary. For clients classified as Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs), the entities must also comply with Sebi's data-security guidelines for FPIs, depository participants, and eligible foreign investors.

The new provisions will take effect immediately, according to Sebi.
