Report: Man United facing major competition to sign 19-year-old defender

Manchester United faces a significant challenge in securing 19-year-old defender Jorge Salinas, as they are battling intense competition from Atletico Madrid. The reports suggest that Atletico is moving swiftly to acquire Salinas, who was recently watched extensively by Manchester United during his time at Racing Santander. The young left-back's performances in the European Under-19 Championship further bolstered the positive reports United had previously collected about him.

Currently, Salinas' release clause stands at €16 million (£13.7m / $18.6m), a relatively modest sum in today's transfer market. However, the urgency comes from the fact that Atletico has been expediting talks over the past month, following the departure of Matteo Ruggeri to Aston Villa.
