QRCS, OCHA mark World Humanitarian Day 2026

Doha, Qatar witnessed a solidarity stand organized by United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on World Humanitarian Day 2026, marking the occasion with the participation of the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS). The event, held at UN House in Doha, saw QRCS representatives including Treasurer Abdullah Sultan Al-Qattan, Acting Secretary-General Khaled Abdul-Rahman Al-Ibrahim, and Dr. Aiham Ismaiel Al-Sukhni, alongside staff members.

QRCS Treasurer Abdullah Sultan Al-Qattan emphasized the condemnation of attacks and restrictions against aid providers, stressing that such actions violate international laws and disregard religious teachings and moral ideals. He paid tribute to the QRCS humanitarians who lost their lives in the line of duty, reiterating the commitment to humanity and the humanitarian mission.

Dr. Rayana Bou Haka, WHO Representative and Head of Office in Qatar, on behalf of UN agency colleagues, voiced solidarity with humanitarian and health professionals who have become targets in conflict zones. She called for an end to assaults on health workers and urged respect for international humanitarian law.

The event also featured a public photo exhibition at Place Vendôme (ground floor, Gate 1) by QRCS and OCHA, aimed at raising awareness of humanitarian action globally and the escalating risks faced by civilians and humanitarian workers in conflict and crisis zones. The opening ceremony was attended by key QRCS and OCHA officials, including Hussein Aman Al-Ali, Assistant Secretary-General for Volunteering and Local Development.
