Police to crack down on traffic violations in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has reactivated Operation VELVET across the state's 20 Local Government Areas to enforce traffic regulations, improve road safety, and ensure smooth vehicular movement on major highways. Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, directed the operation, targeting violations such as one-way driving, reckless driving, unauthorized use of emergency sirens, and vehicles with missing or altered registration plates.

Other offenses include driving without a valid license, overloading vehicles, and parking that obstructs traffic flow. Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, ordered Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to effectively implement the operation while ensuring proper briefing and supervision to avoid misconduct.

Violations of the operation could result in disciplinary action for officers involved in bribery, intimidation, or professional misconduct. The police urged motorists, fleet operators, and transport workers to cooperate with the enforcement and comply with traffic regulations. The operation is being carried out as the police command intensifies traffic enforcement statewide, particularly on major highways and transit corridors in Ogun State.
