PKR Youth chief calls for probe into bullying claims after student’s death

PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim has urged for an in-depth investigation into allegations that a 14-year-old student in Kuala Lumpur committed suicide following alleged bullying at school. Kamil expressed his condolences to the student's family and stated that he had been briefed on preliminary reports suggesting possible verbal bullying, including remarks with racial undertones. However, he emphasized that the matter required further investigation and warned against drawing premature conclusions or assigning blame.

Kamil called for a thorough, transparent, and fair investigation, urging everyone involved to examine all possibilities, hear all parties, and ensure the truth is uncovered. He stated that the incident should prompt a broader reflection on racism in Malaysian society. If racial hatred had become normalized among children in schools, he argued, the country faced a far more significant problem than a single incident.

Kamil stressed that school should be a safe place for children to learn and develop into well-rounded individuals, not a breeding ground for hatred based on someone's skin color or ancestry. He urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to take racial taunts among children seriously, rather than dismissing them as harmless. "Children are learning from the world we build for them. We must ensure that the world teaches them to respect others, not hate them," he said.
