Pixel 11 Gboard Writing tools offer ‘Personalized suggestions’ with Gemini Intelligence

Google has enhanced the Gboard writing tools in the Pixel 11 series with Gemini Intelligence to provide "Personalized suggestions." The update allows Gboard to deliver "draft suggestions tailored to your personal style" within a new "Suggested" tab. This functionality is based on an analysis of a user's current conversation, text input, and typing habits.

For example, if a user types "7 PM Spanish restaurant?" in a messaging app, Gboard may suggest "That sounds like a great plan! How about dinner on Thursday at 7 PM at the Spanish restaurant?"

The "Suggested" tab takes into account the user's "typing history" and the "screen context" from both first and third-party messaging apps. This information is gathered through a snapshot of the screen at the time of usage. All data processing is handled by Google's Private AI Compute, which encrypts the data and processes it in a private, dedicated space on the device and in the cloud. This ensures that no one, including Google, can view the user's data.

Users can control the "Personalized suggestions" feature through a new menu in the top-right corner of the Gboard interface. If the feature is unavailable for a specific app or at the moment, the "Suggested" tab will not appear. Additionally, Gboard now includes a smart reply feature that offers quick response options based on the user's screen context and writing style.

The predefined rewriting styles remain unchanged but will utilize screen text if "Personalized suggestions" are enabled. Users can manually modify the rewritten text using a "Describe your edit" button.

The Pixel 11 feature is supported across Google Messages, Google Chat, Line, and other chat apps, with availability in all supported countries or regions, excluding the European Economic Area (EEA).
