Osun: Police arrest armed robbery syndicate, recover AK-47, ammunition

In Osun State, police have apprehended five suspected members of an armed robbery gang and seized an AK-47 rifle, 13 rounds of live ammunition, and a single-barrel firearm. This development followed the theft of a new Lexus Jeep in Ada, Osun State, committed by armed individuals on Monday night. The victim promptly reported the incident to the police, triggering the Anti-Robbery Team's pursuit using the vehicle's tracking devices.

The suspects, Johnson Friday and Augustine Godwin, were apprehended at a filling station in Ibadan, Oyo State, while refueling the stolen vehicle. Preparatory investigation revealed that the gang was transporting the Lexus Jeep to a receiver in Idiroko when they were caught. Further inquiries led to the arrest of two additional alleged gang members, Augustine Godday, 18, and Semiu Ogunlowo, 20, in Esa-Oke, Osun State.

Consequently, an AK-47 rifle, 13 rounds of ammunition, and a single-barrel firearm were recovered, concealed within a sack behind one of the suspects' homes. The police are currently investigating to locate a receiver in Idiroko. The Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, CP Samuel Erale, expressed gratitude to the Anti-Robbery Team for their prompt and professional response.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and provide information to the police, assuring that all culpable individuals would face the full force of the law.
