Opposition leader blasts Lee's praise of Trump's decision to reduce Korea-US drills

Opposition leader Jang Dong-hyeok harshly criticized President Lee Jae Myung's words regarding the reduction of South Korea-US military drills, describing them as an "unprecedented moral victory". Jang, head of the main opposition People Power Party, expressed his disapproval during a party leadership meeting in Seoul, reacting to Lee's post on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the allies decided to shorten the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise at Trump's behest.

Lee sent the message during a difficult time when he was being pushed in a corner, according to Jang. He described it as a "pitiful denial of reality". Jang argued that the root of the crisis is evident to the entire world, questioning South Korea's refusal to participate in the U.S. military campaign in the Middle East and the delay in investment in the U.S. as the primary causes.

He also suggested that even President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would reject the situation with a "no thanks" if they were presented with the same circumstances.
