Newly Married Man, Family Members Held For Strangling Wife To Death For Dowry In MP's Sheopur

In the village of Kaupura, under the jurisdiction of Veerpur police station in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur, a newly married man and his three family members have been arrested for the alleged strangling death of the woman, Rinki. The couple had only been married for a couple of months when the tragic incident occurred around two to three months ago. The police registered a case against Rinki's husband, Jarsingh alias Jalsingh Rawat, along with three others - Antarsingh, Udal, and Halki - all residents of Kaupura village.

According to the family's complaint, Rinki had been suffering harassment at the hands of her in-laws, particularly for dowry, from the time of her marriage. The alleged harassment would occur between 1 am and 6 am on August 16. The family alleged that Rinki's husband strangled her, leading to her untimely death. It was also reported that she was a victim of regular assaults and dowry demands following her marriage.

Interestingly, the village panchayat summoned Rinki's husband for questioning on the day of her death. During the interrogation, he reportedly admitted to strangling his wife. He was then handed over to the police following the panchayat's report. However, the family alleged that the police did not arrest him immediately; they waited for the post-mortem report.

Post-mortem findings revealed serious injuries on Rinki's neck and some internal private parts. The police registered a case under Sections 103(1), 80(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation into the case is being handled by Vijaypur Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Raghvendra Singh Tomar.
