In a groundbreaking achievement, the Vande Bharat train achieved an unprecedented speed of nearly 100 kilometers per hour while traversing the world's highest railway bridge, the Chenab Rail Bridge. Standing majestically at 359 meters above the Chenab River, the bridge outshines the Eiffel Tower in height. This historic event unfolded in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir, as the Vande Bharat train completed its journey on the 111-kilometer-long Broad Gauge rail section connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal.

The Railway Ministry had recently approved an increase in the maximum permissible speed on this newly constructed rail segment under the Jammu Division of Northern Railway. Following this approval, trains operating between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal can now attain a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The Vande Bharat train, during its test run, reached this remarkable velocity as it crossed the Chenab Bridge in Reasi.

The Chenab Rail Bridge, recognized as the world's highest railway bridge, forms an integral part of the ambitious rail connectivity project aimed at linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. Northern Railway announced that the maximum speed of trains on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Banihal Rail Section has now been set at 100 kilometers per hour, following the Railway Ministry's approval of the speed increase.

The development comes after the railways conducted stringent safety checks and ensured adherence to all prescribed safety standards before raising the permissible speed. This enhancement in speed is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency on the 111-kilometer rail stretch, further solidifying the rail network's connectivity between Jammu and the rest of the Kashmir Valley.
