NBA champion Tristan Thompson joins Dubai Basketball as global ambassador

Dubai Basketball has officially announced NBA champion Tristan Thompson as its new Global Ambassador, enhancing the club's international image as it strives to become a prominent force in global basketball. In this new role, Thompson will assist Dubai Basketball in expanding its global footprint through strategic alliances and fan engagement, while nurturing basketball culture in the UAE and beyond.

He will collaborate closely with the club's management to bolster its presence in international markets and contribute to Dubai's objective of becoming a top destination for elite basketball. With over a decade of NBA experience, including his pivotal role on the Cleveland Cavaliers' 2016 championship squad, Thompson has long championed Dubai's impressive growth and achievements.

He joins other global sports stars who are drawn to the emirate due to its ambitious outlook, strategic vision, and burgeoning sports ecosystem. "Dubai has become a place where sport, business, culture, and opportunity are all moving at a rapid pace," Thompson remarked. Thompson played in more than 800 NBA games. "Dubai Basketball is constructing something that feels larger than a team.

There is a genuine opportunity to make Dubai a global basketball hub, linking talent, fans, and opportunities across the Middle East, Europe, and beyond. I am thrilled to support the club's journey and help build an environment where players aspire to come, remain, and compete at the highest level." Since its inception in 2023, Dubai Basketball has swiftly evolved from a fledgling franchise to one of international basketball's most ambitious and swiftly growing clubs.

The team made history in the 2025-26 season by becoming the first Gulf-based side to participate in the EuroLeague. In its second season alone, Dubai Basketball clinched the ABA League title and has attracted over 100,000 fans, solidifying the sport's presence across the region. Thompson's appointment arrives as Dubai Basketball intensifies its global outreach, emphasizing basketball culture, strategic collaborations, media exposure, and fan development.

His role will also bolster the club's overarching mission as a bastion of basketball excellence, regional pride, and international prospects.
